This was asked like 2 days ago max, lol.

Get a decat and be a man for heavens sake...why pay 240 quid when 100 will get you a decat and will free up the revs more?:p

Will fit your blueflame fine mate.

I'd rather pay £250-300 for a sports cat than be fleeced on a roadside emissions check for a grand.

Also, you don't have the hassle of changing it back etc at MOT time or the extra noise.

Each to their own though:D

My decat was never taken off and mine passed it's MOT;);)

Being that much cheaper i would prefer to get a de-cat but i am determined not too have a car too anti social. I've done the boy racer thing with a 1.2 and realise its time to grow up.

Also, from an ethical point of view i probably cause enough problems for the environment without sticking the boot in with a de-cat!

How much is the Sports Cat from Motorworld Ali do you know?

I can fully vouch for the pain in the ar5e of a job that is changing a Cat on a 172. It took both me and my dad (both technically minded) around 30 mins just to swap them over once we realised what we needed to do. You just cannot get access as the subframe obscures your view.

Keep searching Fleabay, mine was £53 delivered from there.

Having a straight through racing exhaust system (exactly what most people on here are recommending) will get you in trouble in the end.

The only reason you'd do it, is because you want the most horse power per buck, not really considering what could happen. Insurance is one thing that's been covered before, if your car isn't street legal in one way or another, it will more than likely not be covered in the event of an accident. You will also get in trouble with police if they catch you with it (though this is also unlikely), and seeing as things are starting to lean toward green environments, I am confident MOT testers letting cars that fail the emissions test have an MOT are also going to be clamped down upon. Although there'll always be some left.

My only recommendation is, get a sports cat if you want to go all out, it doesn't make all that much difference, but at least it's legal, and if something does go wrong with the engine and the check engine light comes on, you'll know something's wrong, rather than putting it down to your "badboy exhaust system".

This is something i mentioned in a post. Plenty of people had a go at a guy who crashed with MOT, yet are fine with having decats that invalidate insurance cover because its illegal.

I wouldn't say its fair if a de-catted Cliosporter didn't get payment after a crash but it is a risk you should think about.

Depends what you value the extra oomph at. £280 isn't exactly cheap, but if you're going all out then yes, I would recommend it as an upgrade.

So does having a de cat definitely invalidate your insurance ? Does anybody know this for sure ??

Cos if it does , whats the point of having car insurance at all , if you write it off and they see the de cat , you've lost your insurance money and the cost of the car .

Of course you can have your cat removed. Many people get away with this as you've seen on this forum.

But ask yourself this.

Would you like to be the one that got caught ??

Not only would you lose insurance cover, driving without insurance is a criminal offence and seeing as you couldn't pay for an accident you caused yourself, that means prison time.

Same as driving without insurance, people do it, people get away with it. But when they get caught, well, they can't say they didn't know the risk.

u couldnt be done for no insurance as it clearly states that nothing contained within your insurance schedule affects the rights of a third party to make a claim, and the only requirement by law is that you have third party insurance

this means even if youve got alloys/bodykit/decat/whatever fitted undeclared and u crash, your insurance company will still have to pay out by law, however they then have the right to come after you for fraud to reclaim the costs incurred by them

Agree with you Jeff

Anyone with any sense will realise the way the UK is going with environmental issues....all this 'friendly' MOT testing business will be clamped down in the end.

I know alot of people think they can worm their way out of any situation with the police etc, etc but is it really worth it for a piece of straight through tube and a bit more attention making noise?
