Sportlines and new dampers?

  MKV GTI
Hi guys,

I will purchasing some eibach sportlines soon after deciding against coilovers and i am wondering wether it is a good idea to fit new renault OEM dampers at the same time, as i know they are prone to leaking and lowering the car 20-30mm will not help this matter when the current dampers have done around 40k.

Has anybody had any issues with fitting the sportlines and then having leaking dampers as i have no idea how long the dampers are supposed to last. I would buy aftermarket but i am not aware of any dampers which are compatible with the sportlines!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I really would reconsider Coilovers, by the time you've bought the Sportlines and new dampers, the cost wont be far off from a set of Coilies from Ktec.
Also is your 182 a cup/cup pack?if neither then koni do dampers for the 182 non-cup.

i was thinkin exactly the same thing here, Both my rear dampers are gone so i need a set of them, so i was thinking of gettin OE front dampers aswell.
Ive got a 182 with cup packs so would i need certain front OE dampers then?

I have thought long and hard about coilovers but i am very reluctant in getting dare i say cheper coilovers as i have had experience of this and they have ruined the cars handling , however i have heard how good the ktecs are and have test drove a 182 with them fitted, this aside i really would like KW v1 but guess what i have a cup and they wont do the 60mm spacing makes my piss boil trying to find a decent set of coilies for the 182 cup as they are either cheap or very very expensive, dont really want to be spending more than £700 if i was to buy coilies that puts me in a market that does not exist.

So because of this as i wont be using my car on track have decided on sportlines, although the price, reviews and my own personal experience of the ktec coilies is hard to ignore i just dont want a 10min test drive in perfect dry conditions with smooth tarmac sway me into buying this setup as i would like a more extensive test in many different conditions before i decide as i know cheap coilovers can get very crashy and nervous over uneven surfaces, if anyone can put my mind at ease on the ktecs on the above issues i may reconsider as they are better VFM.

You are right about the price difference, in being no between from cheap and very expensive.
I was in the same boat six months ago and was very close to buying the ktec coilies, I even rang up to order them and came away with buying a set of H&R's, last set in
stock on the orignal price, before the new prices came in after xmas.
A quick PM to FRED@BTM may reveal some news about the KW's?

Sportlines with std dampers felt pretty nice over in n.wales yesterday. If you're happy with the drop of the sportlines have you considered the koni adjustables?

well, looks like my options now are:

Sportlines and new oem dampers
Ktec coilovers
or i hope that fred or other specialists will be able to sort me out, in the near future some cup kw v1s which i dont think will happen, ever!

meh, always a glimer of hope lol!

How much were the H&R's mate if you dont mind me asking what are they like, worth the extra outlay?
Also whats happening with the kw's fred doing some R&D on them?

I really, really do not understand why more manufacturers will not do the 60mm spacing there is a huge demand for them, well among people who own cup packed rs clios anyway :(

I'm holding out for a second hand set to come up, then i'm having the bolt machined a tad bigger so they fit.

If your going down the new spring/shock route, I'd get upgraded shocks (koni items maybe)?

Koni shocks & eibach spring setup will be a lot better than ktecs coilover setup.
