square patch in middle of windscreen

  Golf R32 & 172 CUP

what is it?? is it to do with the auto wipers?? its the one at the bottom of the screen

Break in the heat reflective screen.

Meant to be for toll cards in france as they dont work through it.

its a window that allows devices to "see" through the uv coating on the screen.

  2008 Golf GTI Edition 30

Its for anything that is restricted by the reflective glass.

ie GPS recievers, toll booth tags etc.

the little square patch is actually for silly parking stickers .it says in clio hand book but dunno if anyone ever sticks them to their windows

  Clio v6

It was put there by Renault in conjunction with Cliosport. Basically all it does is gets a newbies post count off the ground. :)

I believe it is for the Climate control to calculate the relative temperature outside compare to inside?? I think>???

The clear square patch is for night driving - hence it is clear. Reno put it in the middle to allow universal fitment to both LHD and RHD cars. I find it best if I set the cruise, straddle the centre console and rest my chin on the cubby hole with my forehead agains the windscreen (my right hand on the steering wheel, left is used to brrace me in position). Vision is so good I have disabled the auto lights!

This is correct - toll card and the equivalent of european tax discs. The break in the screen is to allow the detectors to pick the bar code up as the windscreens have a special tint which reflects heat in order for the air con system to work more effectively. The break in the screen allows the infa red detectors the authoriries use to pick up the bar codes on the toll cards and tax discs.

the hand book says its "an area 4 is suitable for affixing passes to the windscreen, e.g. motorway permits, car park season tickets etc" goto page 3.27 in the handbook for alook.

  Ford Fiesta

all covered before its for tickets that are needed for toll bridges etc.

search button will confirm this.

This is correct, it allows you to use GPS, or Sat Nav equipment that would be otherwise blocked.
