squeeling not stop!!!! (metalic...)

  182

Whenever i start my car i get this type of loud squeeking/ squeeling sounds like it could be a belt but its definatly not a belt. I know that its been doing it since i had the water pump changed about 6 months ago but only started out as a little churp and and would gradually die away as the car was driven for longer. It has got so bad now that it just is constantly screeming in every gear abd doesnt quiten down like i said im 99.99% sure that its not a belt, it sounds like squeeking metal that needs some serious lube!!!

Any ideas its sounds awful....

yes thats why I said tensioner or idler. They should be replaced every 2nd belt change anyway. Mines squeaking away when hot. Pain in the arse, its only 2 years (but about 80k miles) old.

aye they will hold out. I have yet to see a ren one break apart. The vauxhalls on the other hand...

Easy way to tell is pop the cambelt cover off and spray wd-40 in the tensioner/idler but not on the belt, if it goes/changes the noise then thats the prob for sure.

I tried the wd40 trick i had my car running on tick over and it was squeeling like a good-en unfortunatly ive lost the straw to the oil so i just moved a few wires and sprayed in the direction of the noise, its coming from the right hand side quite near the top?? Anyway i sprayed it towards a pully/ tensioner, whatever.... and the noise stopped for a breif second but then returned so upon trying that im pretty sure its a bearing????????

Any ideas how much it could cost to replace?

RobFenn, the noise is there on tick over and as you rev the engine it gets worse! Its quite misleading coz it shows all the symtoms of a belt, but more a more metalic noise.....
