Standard or Upgrade

I have had my 182 for 6 months and it is coming up for service. I have had a look at upgrade bits but its hard to tell the great stuff from the naff stuff so I thought it best to consult the experts.... you!

What would you recommend for the following areas in terms of staying standard or upgrading, also for those who get their hands dirty tell me how difficult the various tasks are as I will take it to Renault but would like to avoid too much of a hefty bill!!

Many thanks in advance

1) Discs and pads
2) Oil
3) Air Filter
4) Coolant
5) Spark plugs

Also any ideas on how to make the car that little bit sharper, quicker etc without serious modding would be much appreciated.

...Well upgrading stuff like that is hardly going to extract that extra 50hp that 182s reserve for the modders...

But they'll all be good for the reliability and life of the engine..

Change your oil every 6 months or 10k miles and your engine will go on for ever.

Brakes... you can get better pads, but ask yourself this... How often are you braking at 100% and thinking "I need better brakes" ???

So basically keep it all standard unless I am gonna seriously mod it?

What is a fair price to pay for a full service? Renault Harrogate have already proved themselves a bunch of incompetant idiots so I am thinking of taking it elsewhere so recommendations are welcomed.

Ask friends and family around your area. I would never advise anyone to take their car to a dealer for a service.

As long as they're VAT registered and use Renault parts then your warranty is fine. My car was serviced at a Renault dealership about a week before I bought it... They hadn't even checked the brake fluid:S ...

Make friends with a good mechanic and take it to them everytime. Will save you big money in the end and you'll know your car is being looked after.

Regarding the mods, I still recommend changing your oil as often as convenient. I do mine every few months (which is about 10,000 miles).. Runs a lot smoother than leaving it to the services.

Other than that, not really much to worry about, but remember to replace your current radiator water with antifreeze solution.. Winter's coming

Cheers mate, what oil is best, I rang Renault last week and they appeared only able to tell me what not to use. In my old Type R I used Mobil 1?!

Jesus christ you do a lot of miles!! Your poor renault must be clocking them up

She loves it :rasp: .... I don't (when I bought it with 12k miles and 2 years old, 25mph average speed and 60odd mpg on the computer)... I've since reset it, and over 7000 miles it's at 46mph average with 48mpg.. hehe.. (Only a DCi owner will know how hard it's been driven, no town driving btw, all country roads)

I need a 150mph car.

5-40 fully synthetic oil is better, but 10-40 is also fine.

Not too much difference in the brands, but obviously go for a well known make. Castrol is what I've been using lately.
