Started Motor Help

Need some advise.

Sometimes after driving a long distance when starting my car irt wont start. It feels like the immobiliser is cutting in but it can be pushed started so it wont be that. I have decided that it is the starter moter. I changed this because it was lasy a yr ago but it still does this. I have been told its because i am missing a heat shield or something and so is getting to hot.

Does this sound right? What is the heat sheild? I can see the only difference between mine and other 16vs is mine hasnt got the silver stuff at the back by the exhaust manafold and starter. Is this the heat sheild? If so how much are they and where can i get one from?

Thanks,

Kevin

Mine did that mate. Had to have a new starter motor. c**t of a job too. Cost £160 fitted, genuine Renault one though. Just sticks sometimes doesnt it? Annoying as f**k.

The silver thing is the heat sheild mate, they are made of some sort of material covered in like a aluminium foil stuff. Think the material might be kevlar or something. They are about £50 I think, somethin silly like that! Mine was lookin tatty so i repaired it. My mate made one out of sheet aluminium, looked quite cool and cost him f**k all.

hehe, mine was £82.50 from Renault, and I changed it myself - very easy, 1 hour job.. although, mine is a 1.2 DIET and it was right on the front of the engine!

New one sounds soooooooooooooo nice.

Look at a 16v engine bay mate!, If you can spot where the starter motor is youre doin well!

Its down the back sorta under the exhaust manafold. I really dont wanna have to fork out for another starter. Hopefully if i get the foily stuff that will help it.

If it dont i will leave it and just put up with it until i am out at work in sept!!!

I needed mine to be reliable at the time so had to get it done fast. it might be the lack of a heat sheild that didnt help

Going to give the foil heat sheild a go.

Last time it stopped working was in the worst place. It was at a cruise and the police where emptying a car park of cruisers. I had to wait till every1 had gone them push start it. The police where giving me some looks. I was waiting for them to do me for someting

It may just be a poor connection on the solenoid wire. Its the small WHITE lead with a black connector. Remove and refit the terminal from the starter solenoid and then see if the starter works. If it does, replace the terminal with a new shinny one.

I know its a bugger to get to, but if its that, it will save you a lot of time and money.
