Starter motor cracked, any insight?

Hey guys,

anyone seen this before and know what might have caused it... I’ve not got the starter out yet to see if any other damage to the unit.

It went at the end of a trackday (a while ago now!).

the starter is getting replaced but just wanting to understand what a potential cause might be!

Likely just age or been slightly damaged in the past whilst removing/refitting the cable I'd say

Thanks, yeh to be fair it’s been bolted onto a rebuilt engine and gearbox so maybe got caught when getting re-fitted.

main concern was it could be related to some other gremlin!

Did it have its heat shield fitted?

Also the possibility that it’s been hit with a hammer.

If a car won’t turn over on the starter it’s often because the starter solenoid is stuck and giving it a tap with a hammer sometimes fixes it.

Yeah someone must have nipped the 13mm way too hard

@Commie VID sent me a starter and it managed to get damaged in transit breaking the post off. Some right heavy-handed b******s out there
