Starter motor heat shield

Fitted one over my starter motor today, was a right fiddly job but I thought I managed to get it clipped on. Anyway took the car out before and it fell off, right on to the driveshaft, so I could here it flapping on the driveshaft, took ages getting it out.

What's the best way to fit them? Would it be easier to just remove the starter because when I was fitting it today, I was working blind because you can't see where it needs to clip on to and trying to thread it through the manifold was a right pain.

When I replaced my engine we forgot to replace this heat sheild. Never did it any harm in the 2 years I had the car! Leave it off!

I wish I could, but I've had to have the starter replaced once and that one was only a year old. This one now is starting to struggle and it's definitely heat related.

it should stay on once clipped in. are you sure your pushing the clips through the right place. they should go in between the motor and the solenoid.

Clips? Is there suppose to be more than one clip on it? Because mine has only one. I must have clipped it in the wrong place the 1st time hence the reason why it fell off, it's a little difficult to know exactly where it needs to clip on because you can't actually see what you're doing.

I remember using a piece of mirror and a led head-light. AFAIR the clip is one but it is two-fold to grip both starter and solenoid.

Managed to get it fitted now. Pain in the arse though, had to remove the Plenum and undo the mani from the back of the engine and push it back to allow enough access to clip it on.

Ive had major problems (100% heat related from trackdays) over the past year with mine, replaced it a few times, not had a heatshield - wont start after its been out on track as the motor cant spin. Hour or so to cool down and it starts fine, but eventually gets worse and f*cks the motor.
