STARTING PROBLEMS

car wouldnt start this morning, got the breakdown guy out and after a few mins he took the side of the airbox off and put his hand over something in there (throttle body?)

he said it wasnt sucking the fuel through.

can anyone shed any light as to what he may of done as he didnt explain it very well.

and also why it did it? do you think it'll do it again?

put his hand our your air induction i pressume...

covering the airbox would stall the engine but would also try and pull furl through :S

bloody thing wouldn't start again this morning.

finally after a few attempts with the key i left it on pre ignition for about 2 mins then it fired.

took it my local renault specialist and they said without doing a diag that couldnt tell what was wrong with.

has anyone had these intermittent probs before? it was fine when i went to go home last night after work, but over night to this morning it wasn't?

very strange!?

also got some kind of rubbing noise from the rear nearside now when doing sharp rights, anyone got any ideas on that? :s

im seriously contemplating getting a new car ffs!

i have this prob 2, i changed my key batterys Thinking it was the immobilser, but it still does it :(

i would also need some ideas from someone

yeah my immobiliser goes out completely, so im not sure now.

going to have a look at all the relays etc at the weekend and see if any are dirty etc.

then who knows where i go from there.................

anyone?

just to add to this,

i had the exhaust mounts replaced in the middle near the cat and at the backbox because the middle one had gone and the other was worn.

my exhaust now sits up tighter to the body, does anyone think the lambda sensor cable is rubbing against the heatshield and causing these problems?

re rattle from rear; go under car and having a rattle about and see where its comin from

re startin problems; u might wanna try the plip key battery, u can them for couple of quid and using a glasses screwdriver, to nulify it being a fuelling problem, you should hear the fuel pump kick in when u turn the ignition on (like a humming sound), moneys on the plip battery though

relay switch in the engine bay fuse box.. clean the terminals.. happened to my k4m!

i would say tdc sensor (crank shaft sensor) we see them at least once every other week on renaults, your local dealer would prob have one in stock ask them if you can take it back if it doesnt do the job, try it on the car for a week or so,

took all 5/6 relays out and cleaned them but they werent dirty :s

if it does it again, i'll get some sand paper then clena them that way.

any other ideas?

i would say tdc sensor (crank shaft sensor) we see them at least once every other week on renaults, your local dealer would prob have one in stock ask them if you can take it back if it doesnt do the job, try it on the car for a week or so,

is that easy to replace, e.g could i do it?

would this give me the problem of it not starting after leaving it a long time?

i think i have kinda figured out when it does and doesnt do it.

over night its cold and doesnt like starting, but whilst its been sat in the car park at work all day in the sun, its fine?

could this give a better idea of what it may be?

TDC Sensor more than likely, its doubtfull it'll show on a Diag machine anyway.

There not expensive its worth putting one on anyway. If if you want, remove, clean, get all the dust off, WD40, wipe clean, tighten terminals on block plug and refit

so thats the process in which to clean the tdc?

where abouts is it?

i can see im gonna have fun with this lol, i love getting stuck in on my car but knwing what everything does is a different matter lol.

could anyone point me in the right direction to remove and refit this?

there few way why the car don't start:

1. could be the key batterys
2. try fuel cut out switch - where the red rubber near the battery
3. battery could be flat or check the connections
4. could one of relay fault or the fuse blow out
5. could be the spark plugs

or take the engine out give a good clean;) lol

haha cheers giles, i have checked all of the above.

i will have to just get up early and hope it does not start so i can see why it isnt.

then if it keeps doing it i'll have to get a diagnostic done on it.

will keep this updated. :)

Basically, turn off igniton, remove airbox - bit with filter(2 X10mms, pull it forward & up) You should see the sensor it runs from front to back, undo both 10mm bolts - don't drop them in the bell housing, unclip sensor and away you go, chances are it'll be dusty as anything. Tighten 2 terminals on block plug (staying on car)

If you buy a sensor from Renault you'll get a loom aswell with 2 ready togo solder joints, you'll need a small blowtorch.

well i tried it this morning and she started on first try.

bloody renaults lol

i think all the cleaning of the relays and disconnecting of the battery etc and may have paid off.

we'll see over the next few days whether it'll throw anymore tantrums lol.

i reckon its because i stupidly talked about getting another car whilst sitting in her the other day :D

my motor wouldn't start last night either - was turning over, but not firing!

a renault mechanic friend also said it was probably the TDC sensor. I left mine for a bit and it started anyway, but will probably look to give it a clean soon me thinks.

hope you get it sorted mate :)

i have had the same problem on my dci since i bought it have spent about 2k on repairs including all injectors replaced, after replacing the injectors it was fine for a while but now i have to leave the ignition on for 2 mins before starting!!

My 1.6 had starting problems, the dealer changed the throttle body and the coil packs which cured it, also cured the idling problem :)

yeah well hopefully mine is ok now lol

i may change the coil packs soon anyway as it is ok on idle but i feel it could be smoother.

just got to investigate this creaking from the rear nearside tomorrow to see if i can find out what that is, bloody renaults lol

mine does exactly the same but as this f**king thing turn the key on and off 10 tims normally fires up its a fucker wen ur in a rush

yeah it did this morning again sooooooooo........

im gonna take of the TDC sensor later and see if that makes a difference.

yep mine does the same as well....... i put it down to being a french surrender monkey personally

mines had new coils a year or so ago so id hope its not them again!

TDC sensor was caked in crap, so gave it a really good clean and replaced it. find out tomorrow morning if its done the trick as it only seemed to have the problem in the morning after being left a long time.

also the creaking was the top mount on my back box had shgeared off so the whole exhaust system was swaying around, £30 quid and a bit of weld later and all is good :)

ok well, to report, after cleaning the crank shaft sensor everything seems to be ok (fingers x'd).

it started first time on the key yesterday and also this morning.

:)
