static shock

  B-road bully

very concering, when i get out of my car after driving, i get a slight shock touching the door from outside, find it very weird on a failry modern car. is it jus my car?

yeah i get this aswell, but thought it was somethin to do with my amp and its earthing point? im probably totally wrong like! but it does get really annoyin!

The charge on the shoes soles induces static electrical charge on your body, and this charge appears as a high voltage. Under severe conditions, more than 15,000 Volts have been recorded. It is quite common to experience 5,000V. In fact, many people do not feel a shock from a static electricity discharge less than about 2,000-4,000V.

yes im bored!

I keep gettin this now its getting warmer, and with me getting in and out the car alot on deliveries, the amount of shocks I get are stupid. Ive tried all sorts to avoid them - not touching anythin when I get out, to using a shirt to touch the bodywork but still gets me

  ex Clio 172 owner :(

i get it all the time. even my passenger on the other side of the car has heard the crack sound when i touch the door.

ive been getting some nasty ones lately.

as youre getting out, try pressing the back of your leg on the sill, you only get a very slight shock as your jeans insulate you to some extent. its enough to stop you getting 1.21gigawatts* through your fingers

sounds like u need to stop getting out the car at 88mph

I got this a lot in my 306, but its not happened in my 182 yet. Its down to a number of factors. Some people just generate more static than others, but largely its down to the material your clothes are made of. I always wear a static discharge wrist strap when handling circuit boards at work (containing software/firmware), as Im so static, peoples hair is attracted to me as they walk past. Probably.

I get this all the time. It always makes me laugh though :( sometimes I get a little bit angry too!

I used to get this a lot in my Vectra and my old man had it with his. Never had a problem with my Clio although I have been wearing different clothes lately and I am sure this has something to do with it.

The way I got around it was to sit in the car, open the door and grip the top of the door making sure my palm was in good contact with the metal before I put my foot on the ground. I think that way it just goes straight through you harmlessly. What hurts is that snick you get as the static jumps across the gap between the metal and you hand as you go to shut the door.

I get it on my Wifes Pug 206 also. I often slap my hand down on the door so you dont notice it as much! She looks at me like I am slapping her pug and thinks I am going mad.

Mx-3s have a "Touch" thing on the inside of the door.. which discharges you.. pretty cool, heh.

i work at Motor World, and we are selling almost one of those static strips every day lately, we havent sold any at all for months

LOL I thought it was just me who gets out of my car and either kicks the door shut or flinches when having to close it with my hand. I keep getting real belts off it. Seems to be cold, dry weather when I get it the worst. Never when its raining or damp.

but is it static from the car grounding through me, or is it static on me grounding through the car when I touch it?

Whenever I wear a certain pair of trainers, I get static shocks. Any other shoes, and I dont get it!

lol..never had this on my 172 cup but got it often on my saxo, once in america...me and my girlfriend got a massive one between us from a portable internet machine in the hotel, u could here the crack and it bloody hurt, of course..sensing the awesome electricity in our veins..we hopped to the room for rampant sex*

i read somewhere that if you touch / hold onto metal just before you get out the car thats meant to help......wearing a rubber cat suit is another !! lol

I only find i get shocks when the car has been polished. If its dirty then i dont get shocks at all. Tis a right b**ch though.

Could always shut the door by the handle though i suppose.

  Nippy white cup

Toypop is spot on. We kept getting this on our Cup. Just touch the metal as your foot touches the ground...never had it happen again except when I didnt bother once and the b*****d got me!

  don't

I get this loads aswell

especially now im cleaning the car each week, hot days are the worst,

its always after you get out of the car aswell, usually the misses gets out first and gets it, i now push the door shut on the rub strip or gently knee it shut and hope its pushed hard enough

some of the shocks are soo violent and make a horrible snap sound, pain in the arse

as above, when its dirty im fine

There is a device to stop this.Them discarger straps that hang down from underneath your car.Always see them on blacked out low riders,or just plain cool cars like mine.

Yep !! I got the all of last year to the point that I was actually scared to touch metal objects after getting out my car, I went up town to buy a new suit and managed to avoid touching anything metal, I went into the suit shop and shook hands with the suit guy.. at which point he got a massive static shock from me lol.. he actually withdrew his hand and started rubbing his finger PMSL..

After that I found out the washing powder used on my clothes had recently been changed. After changing back it has never happend since.
