Steering Column Removal

I planned to have a go at changing over my steering column on my mk1 valver tommorrow, i knew it wouldnt be a walk in the park but i didnt think it would be too bad.

Ive just check in the Haynes manual and it says you have to remove the airbag as part of the process and this cant be done without some serious Renault hardware.

Has anyone here had any experience of such a process?

my mate did my coloumn a while ago, its not too bad, their two screws on the bk of the steering wheel then the bag just unplugs

Cheers for the reply, i have visions of me sitting here tommorrow with airbag burns on my face, but we'll see. Is the removal of the rest of the steering column an arse or not?

well my mate did it but didnt look too bad although i ended up with no sterring lock for sum reason?!

Did you replace the barrel lock right?

Not really that difficult to do, bolt at the bottom of the column can be a bit of a b**ch, ratchet spanner would come in handy
