Steering lock not working?

Hi,

I've just realised my steering lock isn't working. With the ignition off I can turn the wheel lock to lock (if i wanted!) which i thought was a little strange :S

I think my PAS pump may be on the way out as get an awful screach on full lock so could this be related?

assume it's the same with the key out of the ignition? i've not had the Clio's ignition barrel out, but there's usually a pin/bar in them that locks the steering - if that's the case with the Clio, could be that it's jammed/broken off

I just went out to check and it now works! I'm sure i'm not going mad, it definately wasn't before :S
