When driving my 172 I've noticed that when going over bumps or uneven road the steering wheel will pull to one side or the other quite erratically. 
I've just jacked it up and the front left wheel has some play in it when held at 3 and 9. There's no play at 12-6, nor is there any play either way on the driver side. I'm assuming this is causing the problems i'm having keeping it straight on the road - is this caused by worn track rod ends? If not, any suggestions on what this could be would be much appreciated.
