steering rack play

I have just removed my airbag as I thought that the torx bolt in the middle of the steering wheel had come loose, when I eventually got it off I noticed that the play is in the actual steering rack that the wheel bolts onto! It moves about 2mm each way - not good!

Any suggestions?

My wheel moves slightly up and down and when turning left or right it sounds like its clickin or catching on somethin, do you suggest taking wheel off to see if my bolt has came loose or could it be the rack too?

Possibly the rack has moved? Cant see it being the bolt thats loose on yours?

Any idea how much it might cost to fix the rack or get it replaced hope its not dangerous to drive

Racks second hand are £35 quid. I have one spare actually if you were nearer, bought off Joshydee and Cliospares but realised my issue was badly done tracking and alignment.

In fact, Ben, you are close, fitment is usually about 100 quid, so if you want this one (based just below Manc) it's yours. No use to me since I've sold the car.

When i got my tyres replaced the sides were bald it needs tracking done but sure that wouldnt give play in steering wheel up and down.

if the wheel is goin up an down its more likely the column thats bent

Yeah but i said in the thread i started it sounds as if its clicking and catching on somethin it could be a couple of things and dont wanna put it into garage and the screw me
