Steering rack universal joint

So I have had this knocking noise for a while now and have been doing some research into it today.
From what I have read in this thread from another forum:

http://www.clio197.net/forum/showth...g-column-knock-possibly-u-joint-behind-pedals

I know its not the same model but its exactly the same thing I am experiencing.

Has anyone had this before on a ph2 and if so, could you let me know what I need to do to get it sorted. Is it a part I can buy and have fitted or is there an easy fix?
Literally nothing else is loose under the car and really is one of those head scratching moments.
I have access to ramps so can get back underneath and tighten bolts etc but i don't know where or what I'm looking for.

I had a knocking and wobbly steering wheel and it was the bearing in the column. New column unfortunately but it's a relatively easy job

How did you diagnose it and where in the column can you detect the play? Was a new column expensive?

Steering feels fine, just a clunking noise which I can feel under my feet.
Is a strange one.

Ball joints, driveshaft or top mounts.

Took wheel off and the shaft moves inside the column, the bearing is right at the top behind the wheel.

I had one from a breaker I had so it cost nothing!
