steering remote & screen on 01+

Hi all,

Need to clear this up and see if people have done it...

You can get steering remote adaptors for Alpine, Kenwood and Sony HUs, you can also get a screen adaptor for the Alpines but ive been calling about and according to everyone Ive spoken to you cant physically have both adaptors and for the Kenwood you can only have the steering remote adaptor.

Has anyone got a Alpine or Kenwood HU that has both the steering adaptor and screen wired in, or can you only have the remote.

far as i was aware if u got the adaptor to keep the steering controls working then the screen worked with that? i dunno thou i havent properly looked into it to be honest with ya. mite do thou

thats what i thought but people are telling me otherwise.

what i want is someone that has actually got it done.

no i cant do it but i have a theory (alpine can do both but only one model supports it at prsent)

wouldnt bother, losing that siilly wee display and them fiddly controls is no big loss.

Much rather have a lovely stereo sitting in my dash.

I believe you can get an adapter for Sony kit that allows the steering remote and the full display to work. Will get me one when I get around to fitting my MD/MP3 stuff.

tom, which alpine model?

according to a chap at incardiscount.co.uk you can get a sinlge adaptor for some kenwood units (newer 02 ones) that does both.

no im NEVER geting rid of my Alpine 7865r (comp spec) HU its rare a rocking horse sh*t and is a classic unit

tom- just spoke to a guy at alpine sales and he said that you can only have the steering wheel control, the head up display is lost as all their HUs have displays there is no need to duplicate it.

Unfortunately there is no way for Kenwood head units to use the clio screen, no big loss, the remote adapter is easily available for most head units about £40. Whole dash has to come off for this, For many head units this is in the form of a box with cable to the steering wheel remote stalk and an infra red led which you put poking out of the steering column this then controls your head unit in similar way to credit card remotes.

Ive been looking into this stuff for my Alpine 7878.

Now Im not sure which is which, but there are two part numbers that appear to be for the clio. Im guessing one is the remote, and the other is the display.
