Steering very vague...

As some of you may have seen, I recently bought a Mk1 Clio 1.4 as a replacement for my runabout, Renault 5.

This model has power steering but I have to say there is a fair bit of play in the steering wheel. So when driving along it almost feels like the steering wheel isn't connected to the wheels.

Very odd sensation, is this just general wear and tear or something that needs looking at?

Probably worn steering column if it's anything like the valvers/willys of this world!

You can get it welded for c. £20 apparently, but I got mine replaced - more expensive (£150 for the part new I think?) but I prefer the peace of mind lol

Welding would do me mate haha. Its a £600 car so not paying too much.

Only thing I wanna know is that the steering wheel isn't gonna come off in my hand while I'm driving?????
