Stereo advice please

  Clio 172 Mk2
Aup all

Could do with some advice about putting in a new stereo in my 172 cup.

Firstly i'm looking to purchase this kenwood stereo

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4120/referer/rc_froogle.html

Seems a really good price being as its £230 in halfords. Has anyone had any experience with this stereo or kenwoods in general? are they any good?

Secondly can someone tell me exactly what i need for this to fit into my cup. Do i have to buy a surround or fitting plate and do i have to buy a seperate adaptor for it to work with the steering wheel stalk??

really appreciate any help!!

If you want a Kenwood go get yourself a blender - it will make better music than their audio!

Their equipment would be in the "cheaper category" of the car audio market, and for every good reason - poor & tacky. I don't think Kenwood are compatible with the steering controls either.

An Alpine or Pioneer Head Unit will see you right :)
Most are steering-compatible and the average price-tag is'nt going to give you heart failure either

I've had a quick look on that weblink above
You can pick-up a Pinoneer CD/MP3 stereo with Bluetooth for £172 ;)

yes some off them do but not sure which ones do, just have a good look around. No point rushing to halfords, paying over the odds and then seeing a better one for less.

i have the alpine 9853. has motorised front panel and the glide touch for 190 a while ago, from www.caraudiodirect.com i think it was. halfords still sell it for 300. it sounds awesome in my opinion but im biased! and i only hace standard tweeters, and alpine type E door speakers running off the head unit

You don't need a facia adapter, your car has a standard DIN slot for the unit. Whatever single DIN unit you choose it will have a cage to fit in the slot.

Don't forget to fit the little rubber mounting plug on the back of the unit to stop it bouncing around, very important in a Clio.

The wiring in your car terminates with DIN plugs, most head units use these plugs but if you choose one that hasn't, you need an adapter loom.

Some makers use a different protocol for the Battery and Ignition terminals (usually red and yellow) and you may need to swap these two wires round to prevent the set from losing its memory every time you switch off.

You can get an adapter to use the steering wheel controls but very few sets will allow the use of the frequency and function display although Alpine are due to produce one that does.;)

Yeah the Alpine "swingface" models are motorised.

You could get an Alpine D100 or a D310 too if you wanted a "motorised" unit ;)

No probs mate
Choose your HU first and tell us what model your car is :)

Alpine have a link in their website to an "accessory compatability checker" I think they call it lol
