sticky throttle cable?

When driving at constant revs (ie 2k revs) and then i stop, the revs stay up at around 1.5-2k. If i blip the throttle slightly they drop back down to the usual 700rpm idling speed.

This doesnt happen all the time... but just happened twice within 5 mins.

could this be the throttle cable sticking? or something else?

Car is a Ph1 172.

Ta. :)

Had this problem on mine, turned out when I was putting on the BMC, I snapped the black plastic guide for the cable, thus fraying the cable and making it stick. In the end, just replced the cable, got one brand new for fiver off the bay. :)

Stabby... is replacing the cable a DIY job? im not too bad with a spanner.
Yes easy enought just trace the old one and put the new one where the old one was.

Yeah mate, best to follow the original feed of the cable. Best to go from throttle body to pedal. You wheel need to get the arch lining out on drivers side or pin it back, oh and get it behinde fire insulation. But yeah about 30min job. Sure someone wrote a guide on here for ben_p :)

Not to bad to do at all, take the drivers wheel off, pull the inner arch trim at the back forward a bit then its all easy to do.
Part number is 7700 815 667
