Stiff "creeking" clutch?

  Nissan 350z
Hi,

On Sunday i p/x'd my 1.2 Grande for a 1.4 Sport (Mk2 Ph1's).
They are both the same model of car and both similiar engines or at least so i thought.

The 1.4 Sport ive picked up is horrible to drive in comparison. It bites really high and the clutch itself is very stiff, it even makes a creeking sound when pushed down. When trying to release the clutch it takes a second for the friction to allow it to move upto my foot (i hope that makes sense). The accelerator pedal is also similar, it has resistance but not enough to make noises like the clutch does.

Is this perhaps a sign the clutch is shagged or is there a technique for loosening the pedals that i could try first?

Thanks for the constructive help edde.

Are those major jobs to put right? Im thinking of dropping it into a local QuickFit and asking them to take a look but at least i have a starting point now.

Its currently in the nearby Nationwide Autocentre. Ive got a feeling they are going to try and get me to pay for a new clutch but we will see. Just awaiting a phonecall.

Aparently it needs a whole new clutch and mountings? 7.5hr job @ £530.

.... Yeah. Time for a 2nd opinion me thinks.

Clucth cable is easy enought to chnage only 20

As for the thrust bearing well its a box off job so you'd chnage the clutch anyway which is a lot of labour.

When i went from a 1.2 to my 1.6 i noticed the clutch was stiffer. Also was your last car cable throttle or the other type(forgot the name). As if you went from a non cable to a cable throttle you would prob feel a bit of a difference.

Try a clutch cable (and a throttle cable for the throttle)

fooked release bearings often make an audible noise when you are sitting still with your foot on the clutch. listen for that.

Check the history for the last clutch change and find out what part was used. It's probably the original clutch and it needs changing. Not a great P/X :( sorry mate. Is the power difference noticable?

Ive seen clutch cables on Ebay, they seem legit. Likewise Throttle cables.

And yes its a very noticeable increase in performance between the 1.2 8v and the 1.4 16v. And most importantly no more juddering around 70mph!

I just need to get this clutch fixed so i can pull off without looking like a learner driver and im sorted.
My mechanic friend is coming for a test drive on Friday to give a 2nd opinion and hopefully a better diagnostic. I think im going to ask him to replace the cable and adjust it so it doesnt bite so high regardless so i can see for myself if the cable is to blame or not.
