still not diagnosed the problem

My car is a 2002 172

Speedometer does not work
The trip computer does not work (MPG etc..)
Miles dont clock up
All the lights on the instrumental panel are lit.
Stereo wont increase the volume on any speed setting


Abs works fine,
Rev counter works fine aswelll as the rest of the lights on the dashboard all the needles work as i have done the dancing dials trick.

I have just replaced both front abs sensors and checked the loom for damage and its fine.
I have checked the connectors in the back of the instrumental panel and they are fine.

I have been told that it could be anything in the abs multiplex network so i would need to take it to renault and put it on the clip so see what the problem is. just wondering if any1 has or had the same problem before and could tell me how to fix it?

you need to get it on a diagnostic system and have it roadtested while they check the parameters for vehicle speed, probably a wiring fault if not a faulty abs computer.

would i have to go to renault for that or are there any specialists on here in the yorkshire region that have all the software? also, would a code reader from k tec pick the fault up?

also, could a cracked abs ring have anything to do with it or would that just make the abs system faulty because i havent fully checked the rings yet

JC5 129 / 130 gearbox i assume ?

Speedometer not working - Speedo drive fault ? possibly fallen out or just knackered. As the speedo pick up passes through the ECU it may possibly be linked to the radio. If not check the UCH - very common fault


If your gearbox doesnt have a speedo drive the speed reading will be taken off the ABS system ( rear ) check the sensors and the rear ABS rings on the discs / hubs.
