STOP and handbrake light randomly illuminate?

  Nissan 350Z
Sometimes, pretty rarely mind, i can be driving along and the STOP and handbrake lights on the dash will light up. They usually go out again within a few seconds. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Check the switch and wiring on the handbrake, on my old Clio it was really sticky and did random things. Might just need the contacts cleaning out on the inside.

If your pads are worn , your brake fluid will be low , new pads , job done .

happened on my 172 and its happening on my 182, pads are 50 to 60% down, always comes on when holding high speed through long sweepers

me think yes

As the pads get worn down there is more fluid in the pipes than the reservoir. When you go round long corners the fluid moves to the side of the resevoir and sets the sensor off. When you straighten up its fine again. Put new pads on and the reservoir level goes up and reduces the chance of it happening. Im on my 3rd or 4th set of pads so I know the symtoms!

hmmm well it could just be the fluid as thats all it was in mine.

im not a heavy braker, 27k miles and changed my front pads at 25k

My last set lasted well over 20k but this set has only been on for about 5k but are cheap shite, overheat instantly!! So they'll be getting changed soon!

  172 coming soon
Can this "Flickering of the lights" not be a sign that the Alernator is on its ay out/dodgy too..?

I know this can be a sign for that on other car manufactureres:rolleyes:

I don't know about the alternator being on its way out causing the lights to flicker , but its a common trait on the Clio that the lights come on especially when going round a sweeping bend indicating either just low brake fluid level or worn pads causing the fluid level to be low .

yeah flickering of the lights in general, but here were talking about the stop light and handbrake light.

Well i think its the pads to be honest.

They've started squeeking again (all the time). Not only that, but the brake pedal was a bit spongey at times and for the first time ever, the brakes were fading a bit... I wasnt even using the brakes all that heavily.

I think its new pad time.
