strange vibration when accelerating

Hello,

I've got a 172 with 60K on the clock. just recently it's started a sort of juddering vibration when accelerating in gears 3/4/5. this is much worse than the resonance it's always had through the power band, which I assume is a 'characteristic' of the car. At constant speed everything seems fine.

Has anyone had experience of this?. Any pointers much appreciated to save freezing spanner time!

I was about to say, if you've lost power and are using more fuel, check your spark plugs. Same thing happened to me, one of the plugs had gone, change the plug, good as new.

To conclude this one - a look underside showed the drivers side CV joint was in a bad way (bellows split and running dry) and would click when rotated by hand. Problem solved, and even the resonance I mentioned before is improved so that must have been an early symptom.
