Strange wireless PS3 problem.

Are there any wi-fi experts in the house?

I have this small but annoying issue with my wirless network. Whenever I'm streaming from my laptop to the PS3, or copying data over to it (both wirelessly) my wireless laptop mouse becomes a complete r****d. Very laggy. Sometimes button presses don't work at all, or sometimes they will work first time but delayed for a second. No other wireless activity on the network seems to cause this effect. It's only when the PS3 is involved. For instance, right now I'm copying a 1080p video file over to the PS3, and the mouse is just being a complete cnut about the whole thing TBPFH.

Obviously it's not a life changing problem as I can use the trackpad but, I just wondered if there's anything I can do to help? If it matters, the mouse is some Logitech thing with a wireless usb dongly thing.

my pc runs poo when i stream using that software The Hoff posted off. Amazing stream but i think it hogs CPU etc. But not sure why your mouse is in a hissy fit

Hmmmm actually, after you saying that, I'm now not convinced it is the mouse. It just seems that the whole machine is sluggish when copying/streaming. There's plenty of memory and CPU resources available, but the HDD is working it's b****cks off at ~95% capacity. I can't imagine HDD activity would make a mouse unresponsive though? The poniter is visibly retarded, as well as the buttons being slow to respond.

I use TVersity btw if makes any difference.

You know what it sounds like but I don't think it is as its a laptop you have (unless its older and has an IDE one ?)

It sounds like DMA is turned off.

Open up the hardware manager and look for IDE channels. Click properties and check that it is set to "Use DMA when possible" and also check the current setting is UDMA of some type.

If its not set to use dma change it to that and reboot, then try streaming stuff again.

Cheers. It's a fairly modern lappy. About 2 years old I think. I thought it had a SATA disk, but anyway...DMA is enabled in the IDE properties.

I think I might just buy a new laptop anyway, as the burner in this one is fucked too. I've had my eye on the 18.4" Vaio AW range for a while.

Perhaps, but I could also use a better CPU, and TBH this screen is only 1440x900 and is quite s**t in terms of brightness. I could definitely do with a new lappy. Given that I still haven't manned up with my games PC though, it's a tricky choice to make between the two TBH.

dunno, these days with so many devices using the same frequency, more and more often this is likely to be a problem.

Why not just use an external hard drive and play it from that like i do.

Cheers David. Interesting. Although mine only has a fit when the PS3 is involved. I'm not sure if it's interference or my system lagging when it's streaming/copying using TVersity. Yeah a HDD is an option.
