Struggling to play 720p :(

Will play if i shut down most processes but that's a pita.

System.
Toshiba satellite laptop
3gb ram
GI U2700 1.30GHz
Windows 7 64bit
3.1 processor score on Windows Experience
90gig of 120 gig free on C: drive.
Screen Res - 1366x768

Processes Running. Ended itunes, would end chrome too to play 720.
Obviously a few processes running, but nothing taking up any considerable memory.

It's your processor to blame, nowt you can do to fix that :p

Maybe try running it with Media Player Classic or something

GI U2700 1.30GHz - seems very low. You have decent 3GB memory but CPU is crap.

I run it fine with my PC which is 2.21 GHz with 1GB RAM so it must just use CPU more.

Click on the resource monitor button to see what is eating up CPU and whether it is in fact VLC doing it.

It plays, but jitters and things. Doesn't run smooth. Tbh i have a desktop with 1gm ram that'll play 720p onto a 37" no problem. But i'ma dunno :(.

Ps. Screenie playing 720 window in background.

I had the same problem once upon a time, it turned out being upside down did no good for the hardware, so return to the correct side of the world and all will be fine. ;)

I joke, but seriously I did have this problem once, turned out I needed a certain HD codec pack, without it my computer nearly died even considering playing HD, but with it, it worked fine. I'll have to ask a friend what it was and I'll get back to ya matey.

If you're using VLC and still can't play 720p, it's definitely your processor that's limiting it - especially since in your screenshots nothing else is using any CPU cycles. I had exactly the same issue on my old 2.4GHz P4 machine - it simply couldn't cope.
VLC doesn't use any pre-installed codecs on your machine. It decodes compressed audio and video using its own in-built codecs which makes it more reliable and means it performs independently of other software on the PC. So if it won't play in VLC, chances are your computer isn't good enough.

Edited with info as i'm a poorper and only get 5 posts.

My external hd is called i own my own playboys. Guess where that line is from. Boring calling it james' computer and james' hd.

Says it cannot render the file when opening in mpc. Will try a different source dl for mpc and try again as it's strange.

Edited above as i have only 5 posts.

Works in mpc but there is no sound. However it said i needed a divx codec update mkv. so maybe it is codec?

Averaging 66% ish so yeah cpu bar is full but playing fine, no jitters, with chrome with 6 tabs open and itunes and flash get running. Weird..

AC3Filter sorted the sound thanks.

So what is the problem then, VLC = s**t? As i though it was immense?

Cpu still is full though, but it plays...

Anyway. Kisses.From.Killerbee.x
