stupid design

  phase 1 flamer 172
Had the clio 4 months now and only drove it so far so today (suns shining) decided to remove the engine cover and have a look, cannot see the spark plugs, do you really have to remove the manifold to get to them? what a stupid design, cannot see me living with that, hate removing one part to get to another. So i sell it or get some throttle bodies.

The plugs are the platinum type. Service interval is 60k isn't it? It's not a regular job anyway. I thought it was silly too until I saw the service book and then didn't see it as problem anymore.

60 k really, then i might still be on the first set, reckon theyll be easy to remove.

FLOL at this thread. Want to sell or fit ITBs because you have to remove stock manifold to get to the spark plugs?

I think it's 60k my dad was getting his done next service and his car was coming up to that last I heard. Don't know if they recommend a shorter interval on here. Even if it's half that it's not like days of old where you need to pop them out occasionally to check alls ok.

No its a bit tongue in cheek, but i will be modifying it so now i have a point in favour of some bodies. bit of a double post

I must be one of the few happy to leave the engine alone in these. It gets the thing moving quick enough to enjoy the chassis and that's enough for me. Not saying you shouldn't just glad I don't feel the itch for more, More, MORE..... Hahahahaha!

As my engine is approaching 60,000 thought i would do the plugs, wasnt too bad, 20 mins to remove manifold and plugs (havent fitted new ones yet) while under here i see some one has written RS on the sam cover, any relevance?, cheers.

I'm sure there is a valid reason why Renault spent millions to design these cars and not consider the spark plugs like you mention. I'd assume the plenum would need to be massively modified to allow you to service them with no parts taken off. The shape and size has been calculated for the most efficient air flow to the engine. It would increase production & tooling costs, reduce or disturb air flow within the plenum, and reduce hp more than likely.

I don't see why you are kicking up such a fuss for a 2 minute job.

Why bother change the plugs anyway.

Like the belts, too much agro to change, leave 'em be, they'll be reet

IM NOT KICKING UP SUCH A FUSS, i said after removing it that it wasnt so bad, and its not a 2 minute job really is it, i still think its poor design, the vw abf engine which is a similiar design allows plug removal between the runners.
