sub to standard h/u??? help plz.

can an active sub be wired to a standard 172 mk2 head unit?
i'm thinking of buying an active sub, but don't really want to buy a new h/u. so does anyone know if they can be wired into the existing standard unit or would i have to buy a new h/u?

You can get active subs that have a speaker input and can then just take a feed from the rear speakers. That would definitely work with the standard head unit. No idea whether the standard h/u has a pre-out to feed an amp but wouldn't imagine so. Sure someone more knowledgeable will say...

You need one of these but then you loose your rear speakers.

^^ tried these in my old focus and they sounded s""t
you get feed back from everything possible and loose your rear speakers
either buy a new hwad unit or run high level inputs to your sub and amp the rear speakers as well
