Superchip or Cams

Im lookin for a bit more power from me motor and basicaly theses are next two cheapest mods. Is it worth gettin a superchip for me valver or should i just go for cams? the place ive been speaking to say that for £350 exchange i could have fast road cams which they say on average give 12bhp which seems alot more power! The other mod i could get is a superchip. Are superchips as in the company any good and do their chips give much of a bhp increase? (All i know is they managed to blow me mates Punto Gtt big style and they had to pay for a brand new engine for him!)

if your thinking of cams, and headwork then the chip comes last as its custom mapped to the mods. HP chips are not properly custom mapped so id recommend a superchip for the cheapest option or if u can afford it a unichip for definate!!

Forget the superchip!

As said get the cams, Power boost valve and hillpower chip. Headwork will give you the max possible benifits but is obviously gonna cost way more.

The above combo will make a dramatic difference till you can afford the headwork and wont be useless when you finally do get it.

Do power boost valves actually do much? My matey had one on his motor and he didnt actually think it dis anythin!

Depends, i think unless theres anything there that will alter the fuelling/timing theres no point - obviously cams do! Youll find that most people who sl*g them have put them a near standard car (in which case the standard fuel regulator can do everything the PBV can) or they have had them put on without having them set properly.

Example: i had my cams fitted then had my hillpower stage 2 chip fitted and to be honest, there wasnt any drastic difference - not happy. Then i cranked the PBV a few notches and it was like a different car! Strictly speaking, they should be set up on a rolling road but even just using trial and error you can make a big difference with them (and save some cash!).

I will say that if youre strapped for cash, get them cams and put a PBV on. It will near enough get you by until you get an appropriate chip and get it setup properly. Do not run the cams alone.

Well from what everyone has said im gunna get cams next i feel. But your sayin get a PBV at the same time yeah?

on F7 series engines close to standard, PBV are a waste of time, as ECU will back the mixture off, cause it runs closed loop and is constanly monitoring mixture, mostly through lambda. So what happens is that you end up with more pressure at injectors but ECU will cut the firing durations to keep mixture down, which is pointless as they are basically fighting with each other. However with modded engine, especially with head and cams, the engine is now able to draw more air per stroke, hence it can take more fuel, with out running rich and ergo produce more power. Defo a waste on standard set up

i can supply you with cams and pbv plus verniers etc pm me mate great prices garunteed example exchange cams £ 250 hope this helps and get in touch with ben r for headwork

the ecu only checks the mix by the lambda until certain rpm... Ill say above 4000rpm it goes open loop so the ecu ignores the lambda reading beyond this point and just opens the inj acording to the inj map.
