Tell them. If they suspect that your cars modified in that way nowadays then then will have your ECU sent of in the event of a claim. Not worth saving a few quid for the probles if you crash and they find you with it.

Then you would be looking at an insurer not paying out for yuor car (there legally obliged for the other parties) and the police after you for not being insured as your insuracne was invalid.
