Dont bother, if you are close to leeds pay a little bit more and go to see Paul at RStuning for a custom remap on his rolling road, rather than a generic map from superchips

www.rstuning.co.uk[/quote]

Had looked at this mate and rs tuner, all have good reveiws but havin said that had superchip on car in the past and never had any problems that was a while ago tho ! My car is std other then rs manifold and panelfilter .

On a standard or lightly 'breathed' on car, there's no point. What's going to be custom about it when the engine is the same as a thousand others?

The engine was built to a standard tolerance (which by definition means an allowed difference) several tens of thousands of miles ago. The chances of it being the same now are minimal at best!

Because no two engines are the same, a superchips map will be based on the development car they used, you get rr printouts of the proven gains and Pauls aftersales support is spot on. Thats enough to justify it for me.

The rr readout gives you and idea of how strong your car is too. A power run on its own anywhere is £50

I'm not arguing mate, but Superchips' work speaks for itself.

They offer a 7 day no quibble refund so if you're not happy, go to RS Tuning. If you're based anywhere near Warrington then SpeedReligion do Superchips remaps and have agreed rates with a local rolling road (the latest DynoDynamics machine).

You're completely right. It does indeed.

I especialy liked their Rover T-Series work which involved a 10pence Diode and an 8 quid bleed valve packaged together at a Retail of 400 quid. Oh and who could forget their mighty Megane 225 calibration which found 9bhp and their simply awesome work with the Esprit V8..................

Some of their cals are pretty good, their Ford stuff is reasonable and works well. However being a generic 'we map everything' type supplier they cannot dedicate the resource required to extract the best results from every OEM ECU they deal with.

Knowing nothing about the work done on any of those cars I can't comment, but as far as 'live' maps go. I'd be suprised if Paul@RST tweaks individual cars on his RR over and over as if it was his first.

He will know what works on the engine, and put the map on. If the RR runs are just before and after, I fail to see the difference between that and something like Superchips or DMS with a before and after dyno.

By all means, if you're near Leeds there's no reason to goto him, I've heard nothing but good things about him and his work, but not everyone lives near Leeds.

I could be wrong but i gather that Paul has a "base map" for the ECU which he then tweaks to each individual car, could be wrong though you'll have to ask him yourself

I'm not arguing either dude, the car is obviously the OPs' pride and joy therefore i'm just suggesting Paul as he has the best reputation on here + justifying the extra expense :) I know where my money would go

Paul tweeks to suit the engine and owner. If you prefer to run the car on 97 octane+ fuel then Paul can increase the amount of spark advance accordingly. You just can't do this with a generic calibration as you need to take into account multiple factors including average engine health and condition.

Don't confuse a generic calibration with one optimised for a specific engine package, and adaption will not make up the difference!

You really need to understand the basic to middle principles of engine control calibration to see the real difference - it's an interesting subject and well worth reading up on if you're planning to change the standard control system calibration.

You're right, but a base map is just that. I do the same thing on BTCC cars as I have a cal that I know is about right for a 4 Cyl engine with S2000 type induction and some trick cams. Getting from that to the finished calibration is the complicated part ;-)

Oh and it might be of interest but a favourite SuperChips trick back in the day was to r****d ignition below OEM values for the early part of the rev range then bring the spark back in very rapidly as the engine approached peak torque. This gives a real feeling of 'coming on cam' as the engine suddenly picks up very eagerly and the torque increases much more rapidly over a smaller RPM range than it would have done on the standard cal - however peak values are the same and the torque curve is lower than standard at low/pre peak torque RPM.

What it does do however is make 'Kevin' or 'Wayne' think his car is now incredibly fast as for a few RPM it feels it!

Yep 100% agree mate my cup has clocked over 70 runs on Pauls rollers to get it right! Dedication and the patience of a saint required!! Dont get that from superchips do you

Superchips 1x2 map = highlight, % and press enter on the advance maps! (vvt on and off same %)

My 172 had one on and i found it rather amusing, and no it's not a one off, i have mapped several superchipped cars.

Tbh the diff between the BESTEST 172 map (Probably pauls) and a superchip map is probably 1 or 2brake!

Be honest now! ;)

Why do'nt you go down the Fastchip.nl route like a LOT of happy ones before you ? Costs around 200, do'nt get any cheaper i believe

+ RR run to see if it's made a diff! So call it 40£?

Piece of mind with SuperChips or Paul goes a long way!

Had looked at this too (never read a bad reveiw on it !). just not 100% sure of the DIY part
Just lookin at other options .

  RS RIP
yep they're probably good :)

So is Fastchip and you know it

He made mine so mean  + a LOT of others

@ Dave ; DIY , yep... but do'nt forget Henk is at the ready for support

Go with an RSTuner, decent tuner, diagnostics, data logging. Plus you can sell it on after you have finished. Best value for money. This is all in my opinion of course.

Had the same dilemma superchip or RS tuner.
Went for the RS Tuner from fastchip, haven't looked back.

Whats a bit of mild micky taking between friends LOL

i had superchips do my car about 3 year ago. don't think my 182 is the same car anymore, doesnt feel anything like the car i drove before i had it done. Was a well wasted 300 odd quid (or whatever the cost was).
do wish id of researched abit more and got a re-map instead.
