Suround sound newbie

Hiya Folks, Im sorry for the big paragraph, its just that my anti-virus for some reason will not let me make more than one paragraph! Anyway, I bought this system on Sunday - http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/sto...null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=252049&category_oid= Now, currys sold me an optical cable as well as they said I would need this and therefore whatever was on the Tele would come out of the speakers. However, there is no optical IN on the system! So that was a waste of a good lead. What can I use instead?? I want what ever is on the TV (360, ps3, wii or sky) to play out of the speakers. Im pretty sure whatever I do isn't going to give me "real" suround sound is it? Its just gonna come out of the speakers as normal.

This is the problem with DVD surround systems. You get lack of inputs!

Ideally you should have got a AV Receiver with many input's. I've got a Sony one and it has 2 x optical inputs, 1 x digital input, 4 analog inputs and 1 x hdmi input and 2 x HDMI outputs (for HDMI switching).

you will get almost nothing hooked up to it !!

it needs to look more like these on the back YOU NEED INPUTS !!!!

Yeah I had a hell of a job getting one with Optical inputs. I don't really need all the others but a couple of optical inputs are essential to connect your Sky and games consoles up. Why on earth don't they all have optical inputs? I mean are the makers r*tards or something? Do they think you will buy another system for use with your console/TV and have another 6 speakers. I mean FFS use some sense!

m8 you dont always need a HT amp for cinema, when you combine some speakers and DVD/BD player you looking at £1000 all in for decent 5.1/6.1

there are some new all-in-ones that have 3 hdmi, 2x optical, 1xcoax, scart etc.. under £500.

doesnt need to be near 1k for a ht system at all amps are cheap speakers are where the money is
