Surround sound setup

Was round a mates place the other day, has a really nice setup, surround sound coming through sky, but for some reason, it wont work via the PS3. The setup is as follows:

Pioneer KRL46V - HDMI to PS3, Scart to Sky, HDMI to Sony Surround
Sky+ - Scart to TV, optical to Sony Surround
PS3 - HDMI to TV
Sony HCD-IS10 surround - connected via optical cable to sky, and HDMI to the TV

The surround sound works fine through sky, but cannot get it working when the PS3 is on. Any ideas guys?

well it wont the ps3 isnt connected to the surround sound lol

lol, forgot to add that when the optical is connected from ps3 to surround sound, that still doesnt work....

You need to turn on the optical out on the PS3 setting menu!!!

Also in AV Settings (triangle when film is playing) make sure Audio Output Format is set to Bitstream

surely if a tv supports dts and has the ps3 plugged in via hdmi, which is sound and video. then surely an optical from tv to surround would work!?

you will struggle to find a tv that supports dts

samsung UE37C5100. works perfect for me with the ps3 plugged in via hdmi then the tv plugged into surround via optical

Ah i see, isn't "surround sound" though as that tv only supports DTS 2.0, which is just jazzy stereo output so wouldn't help him.
