Swirl correction quick question

C

rite, i know how to correct swirls with a PC but on another forum some guy asked whats the best way to correct swirl and some guy replied with this.

" Really to get rid of 95% of the Swirling the car will need to be fully machine polished, you can only do so much by hand as you cant build up enough heat to make FULL correction "

And my question to you is, what has heat gotta do with it? heat = burned paint isnt it?

lol - Heat has nothing to do with it, it is just a side effect of the process.

The machines power to be able to work the polish so the abrasives can break down and do there job is what removes them.

some valeters dont like using machine polishers though, as they think they can do more harm than good. But i suppose there must be a technique to it.

i had overspray on a pervious car, had it valeted and asked them to buff it out, they machined it and it ended up worse.

Those that don't like them and think they can do more harm than good are those that can't use them properly. There is no way you will get the same level of paint correction and gloss by hand.

That unfortunately is very common, a high percentage of cars I have had to correct are those that have been butchered previously by bodyshops and valetors who inflict more damage than they are correcting.

all valeters use machines mate, but they use what they think is best for the car. if the paint was extreamly think for example then they wouldnt use an abrasive compound or a cutting pad.

you wouldnt "buff out" overspray. you'd remove it.

not all of them use machines, 99.9999% do and yes there are plenty of people who dont know how to use them properly.

I saw a program once that had a guy who valets supercars for the stupidly rich, a full valet takes a week and was £18k (a lot of which went on the wax which was a few thousand pounds alone), he point blank refused to use machines and was dead against them, and he reckons the real pros can do without one with the right technique and products. It was a hand job all the way!

You will never correct swilrs without a machine polisher though, you can't work it in enough by hand alone.... as mentioned above

yes mate, exsactly what you just said. SUPERCARS. cas which havent done many miles and dont go through tesco's car washes and dont have a bint using a sponge washing them. the "swirls" which they do have are extreamly faint and can be worked very slightly by hand. there were a couple of guys on DW the other day detailing a ferrari which was in bit of a mess and both 2 guys working on it were using PC's. its not the machine thats the problem. its the pad, polish and the person using it thats the problem.

I personally think most professionals would have you believe machine polishers can damage your paint to discourage you from tackling things yourself rather than paying them to do it.
