Could not get it to shift from the guide hole in the calliper, surely it should come out?!

Yeah do it with the caliper still attached. Are you replacing the cables? Pair of pliers and give it a real good wiggle. Spray plenty of wd40 at it and leave it to soak in first though.Any tips?
