Tappets

Think my tappets are going, theres a loud clicking noise coming from the engine..... how much would it be to replace them? and what sort of damage will it cause if i dont replace them? thanks

On the 172?

The tappets are of a very different design and shouldnt go, especially not on a car this age.

You sure its not just your injectors?

Yea, you can simply reset the clearances on them then! haha

how do i do it? or will a garage have to do it??? and how much am i looking at?? will this solve the loud ticking noise?

It should make the engine less ticky.....but being a proper tappet system, it will allways tap.

Its in the haynes if you got that. Not hard at all...jsut twisting a few nuts.

I was told by local garage that just use a high symphetic oil and it should sovle problem, it cleared mine up.

that will make hardly any/no difference at all........

i did the tappets on my old engine, therefore, its easy

you must of just been low on oil mate as that makes them tap a bit.

would only help on hydraulic tappets. would have no affect on normal adjustable type tappets.
