tappets

Can the tappets be adjusted on a 172? I have done a full oil change, new timing belt, and new dephaser, bar oil everything is genuine Renault parts. The timing isnt out but it still sounds like tappets are making alot of noise. I used a engine flush when doing my oil change which was the sort you put in with no oil, run for 10 min then drain and then new filter and oil could this of knackered them ??

If it didn't make the noise before the flush you have knackered it!! always flush with some cheap oil never use them chemical things.

If I have knackered it what needs to be changed to fix it? can they not be adjusted to make them quieter or what will happen if I leave them??

did you say no oil ive only ever know stuff to put in with the old oil

No it was a 5L bottle drain oil fill with this drain then add new oil

f**k using them oil flush b****cks,just get the engine warm and ditch the oil while its hot or if you want to "flush" then do as mentioned above and just stick some cheap oil through it

hi there, u shouldnt have done that to be honest. I have used one u add to the oil, to be fair there all a gimmick & a load of s**t, been years since i used one.
The only liquid u should put in your engine is oil...... if you ran it neat on a 5L flush... i cant see how the flush was protecting when it was running.

Hi , when I first changed my engine it tapped it's tits off!! Give the hydrolic lifters some time to fill up.

I would say so dephaser got changed after so the flush hasn't touched that. And it doesn't sound heavy enough to be a baring. Runs fine just noisey.

are you 100% sure its the tappets,my old RS Turbo started tapping like a b!tch so i change the tappets,turned out i had a loose exhaust manifold

it was just like a thin oil. i have just done another oil change on the car and replaced it with top quality oil see how it goes now. if not think i think i willbe looking at new set of tappets.
