technical question...

i do most of my miles on the motorway at around 80 -85mph, what will be the long term affect at driving the engine at such a similar speed for so long????

Like everyone else, I dont know what the effect will be on the engine itself wear wise - I dont think its a big deal, however, I can tell you that the engine management system should try to optimise the air/fuel ratio for running around that kind of speed.

Certainly loads better for the engine than being driven around town. I thought that the only time that constant speeds/engine loads were bad was when the car has not yet been run in.The most important thing you can do (aside from regular servicing obviously) is to ensure that the engine oil is up to full working temperature before using the upper reaches of the rev range. Personally I limit myself to about 3k in the Cup - though the work hire car doesnt get such kind treatement ..

Its very good, long term cruising of the engine at relitively low revs much better than any other type of miles you could put on the car.

If you maintain the same speed all the time then you can eventually wear a step in the cylinder bores at the uppermost point the piston ring reaches. Then if you rev it higher at some later point in time the piston ring which now wants to go higher (because of the increased forces at greater engine speed) cant climb the step...

Easy to prevent just rev to the limiter every once in a while:)
