Test Driving

Basically....

Im just wondering how open Renault dealers are in general about booking test drives for cars of theirs. I only ask because I am looking to pick up a 172 at some point when I can afford it, but after hearing so many rave reviews for the 182 I thought itd be worth a test, although there is no way of affording one any time soon.

Should I book a test under the premise of looking to buy, or just go in saying its a fact-finding mission?

There attitude completly depends where you go. One local dealership ignore me and barely give me a brocure the other let me out for a brief test drive with the salesman. I just made something up abotu wanting a change realy and the 182 had good reviews.

Cool, maybe Ill pop in tomorrow and see if I can hang around long enough for them to not be able to ignore me anymore! Have to get the best Cords and shirt out....

I go in wearing my worst trainers and tracksuit as you look like you cant afford it. I took the gf and her kids in, they pulled the christmas tree over, and were playing in all the cars in the showroom.

On initial appearance they think your a slob, but until you mention you in the raf their attitude changes, best way to get a good deal as you can work on that your poor and dont be short on the price. Know your prices too..

Be prepared to buy one tho...

There is not a chance in hell of buying one yet, as I cant even afford the deposit at the moment, but Im pretty sure Ill walk out even more sure of the fact that I must have one!

Popped in today, asked the lady if they had any 182s in the showroom, and got the response "Is who in the showroom?"....OMG!

Sooo, got to speaking to a salesman, who was pretty cool, not pushy or anything and said they had a 182 but it was locked up in the compound (?), for test drives only. He was saying that its not freely available because then theyd have every spotty 18 year old wanting to drive it. Which is a fair point.

So chatted to him about the various cars and he got a brochure out and had a read through and then I went on my way, saying Id pop in next week to arrange a drive...

But, I noticed that the 182 Cup apparently has ABS as standard.... is this correct? Im sure I heard people saying that they would choose the 182 over the Cup for the pure reason that the Cup didnt have ABS...

no 182 cup has abs as its now european law.

people are not choosing the 182 cup as the wight saving isnt enough to warrant losing all the toys

i went to have a test drive in the 182 in march or april and told the dealer that i had no intention of ordering a car for at least a couple of months.
