Thanks mate - yours look great too, I like the Swiss F/18.

Will post some more up later.

Great photos mate, just out of interest - how do you get so many Flickr views?

I've just been on there a long time so have built up a whole load of followers (350 I think), as soon as a photo goes up it gets 100+ views almost instantly and the just builds from there. I think my FoS set alone this year picked up another 30+ followers based on the number of email notifications I got.

Certainly not worth paying attention to though, it's no indication of quality.

Thanks - I've only been on there for a year or so I think.

I upload my aviation shots to airliners.net - got nearly 1'000'000 views there now with 280 odd photos.

I cant seem to remember how to post from flickr copying the code and it doesn't seem to work.

Just looking at my photo's compared to some of the ones you guys have posted. Im shooting at a longer focal length (500), are your photo's cropped as mine are straight from the camera.

Also, sharpness, its night and day between mine and yours. I assume this is down to the quality of the glass as i noticed that most of the images above have been shot with 2.8 glass but not shot at that aperture.

Some stunning shots in here. Hopefully I'll manage to get some at the local air shows this summer.

I crop quite aggressively, 420mm (300mm + 1.4tc) on a FF camera is a long, long way off being frame-filling for most stuff at airshows (your 500mm on crop is getting on for double the length).

Personally in terms of sharpness at the same price point I would rather shoot with something like a used 300mm f4 and crop than one of the 500mm beasties, in my experience the difference is night and day. Very long focal length zooms are quite compromised at the long end.

There is always a big trade-off at the consumer end of the market, length vs AF speed vs flexibility vs quality. Personally I'd take the prime and lose the length and flexibility (and knowing I will miss some shots) to get the quality and AF speed.

Exactly the sort of info I was after. Thanks for that. Off to do some searching.

Tim, I've seen all your pics on flickR the other day. Some lovely images.
