The gearbox is fitted with an hydraulic slave cylinder to operate the clutch mechanism instead of a conventional cable used in older cars. When these break its the equivalent of a clutch cable snapping.
When the car was built i took the clutch mechanism from a Golf GT TDi, the gearbox and the driveshafts. I seperated the master cylinder from the VW clutch pedal and fabricated a bracket which welded onto the existing clio clutch pedal. Then i ran a copper pipe from the pedal to the slave cylinder to operate the clutch mechanism. A seperate pipe went to a reservoir on the dash top ( reservoir is off a GSXR 1100
). The gearbox was then fitted with a Quaiffe LSD ( the box had to be machined in order for it to fit ) the whole set up meant smoother gearchanges and it could also cope with the power output of the engine.
It basically needs a new slave cylinder which means the full lump has to come out which takes about 1hr. The box will need splitting from the block and then you will get access to the slave cylinder. Its an absolute doddle of a job to do and could be done in a few hours flat. When the slave cylinder has been fitted it will need bleading up and your ready to race.
