I've blasted it off with jet wash for now might get some rapid detailer on it later

Wow that is impressive!

Dont allow it to sit for too long as it may start to etch your clear coat. A good wash will see that removed

Is it at all possible to restore the clear coat? Or is it just a case of DA polishing? I have a fair few etchings and it would be nice to remove them for good.

Depends how bad they are. DA might do it or it may need wet sanding first.
