Things to look out for in a Clio

Hi, this is my first post and I'm looking to buy a 3 door clio dynamique in February as a first car. Just wondering if anyone had any hints/tips/experiences on what to look out for in a second hand Clio.

Cheers

Without meaning to sound rude, you need to pay yor £12 membership. It will save you ££'s in the short term and long term!

Quck runthrough for you though....

If its a 1.2 dynamique, expect the oil filler car to be a bit covered in mayo. Stupid design means in never dries out unless you do long long journeys.
Cambelts are due every 5 years or 72,000 miles whichever is sooner
Auxillery belt is due every 3 years or 36,000 miles whichever is soonest.
Sunroofs creak as standard so try and get one with an electric one, they're alright.
Remote 'plip' keys cost a fortune from renault so make sure its got two and they both WORK!
Tyres should be 185/55/15, some people fit cheaper 195/50/15s.
Life the boot carpet and it should be body coloured with no laquer. If its primer or any other colour, its been in a whack.
Steering wheels melt so expect that

There's more but i'm about to go out. Sorry! lol.

Make sure all the alloys are straight and it has the centre cap key, other wise you'll be shitting your self when you have a flat! lol
The drivers seat on three door clio's have a common problem of ripping just where the base joins the back support. SUNROOFS LEAK. So check for damp usually right above the passenger seat, next to the sun visor, if you mention it you may get a few quid off.

The headlights are notorious for becoming cloudy. Not so much a problem but a barganing chip to get money off.

PRESS EVERY F*CKING BUTTON POSSIBLE.

The hazzard warning switch goes on clios but they're cheap.

Dont be afraid to pull up the carpet, never know what lurking underneath. Probably nothing but. You never know

Make sure the spare tire is a good one, another barganing chip lol.

Any ways. Find a good one.

Thats BEEN LOVED.

FSH that kinda stuff lol

:D PM me when you find one!

Thanks guys. Tips to look out for! :)

I was thinking of paying but as I don't have a car at this current moment or even old enough to drive one then I think I will wait until I'm 17 before I invest in the full membership:)

I should be looking at about £1000 as my budget.

And the seat situation, I might look into getting some leather clio sport ones for a swap instead?

The dynamique seats are actually quite nice IMO. They are the exact same shape/cut/size/everything as the Renaultsport seats (indeed the Dynamique seats are fitted to the 172 cup and 182 cup to save weight over the leather/alcantara ones) but in fabric instead of leather/alcantara.

Best tip is to buy wisely. If you buy a cheap/abused/horrid/knackered one then all the "french" reliability comments will be true, but there are really decent ones out there.

EDIT: Ph2 1.2 buyers guide: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?279837-1.2-buyers-guide It'll cost you £12 to see the "guides" section of this site though. Fair enough r.e. your "not old enough to drive" comment though.
