Bit old but things like this....

PSOOC Policeman said:
On Thursday 24th of May, every police force nationwide will be clamping down on cars with illegal numberplates, especially the following;

Letters/numbers spaced wrongly to create other characters.

Black plates on post '72 cars.

Italics/non regulation fornts.

Fasteners used to alter characthers (for example, a screw head used to turn 11 into a H).

The reason for this is simple - the government are concerned about the level of non compliance with the regulations, and want to gauge the level of the problem before tightening the rules further, probably with some pretty draconian penalties. It's a pain for us dibble too, cos a lot of these plates end up on expensive cars, which then don't ping ANPR when they're nicked, so it's not in your interest to have them any way.

This op is for 1 day only, though no doubt once the awareness has been raised amongst police officers there'll be an elavated level of stops for this purpose for some time. It's in your best interests not to have non regulation plates as the law is absoulute - you either have a proper plate, or in they eyes of the law you have no plates at all, which is a VDRS if you're lucky, FPN/court appearance/fine/vehicle seized pending enquiries if you're not.

This operation is insider info and won't be officially publicised until after the event, so take heed (or take the bus that day if you have naughty plates).

I would have thought the above a while ago - One guy over on the PSOOC forums who is a Police officer recently posted that they are having a big crack down on number plates, even on the spacing thing, think it impares how the cash machines work ....

The police number plate scanner, and some speed camera's wont pick your plate up if its spaced/ represented incorrectly.

One of the reasons theyre harsh on dodgy plates.

mines been spaced illegily for a while, been pulled and theyve never mentioned my plate?

max's looks good spaced otherwise it would look shite and pointless, might aswell just put it on and risk it

  you may know it, clio?
to be honest might aswell have it illegally spaced

i didnt buy it cause it looked nice unspaced

I'm quite surprised with all the comments on here tbh, MOST police officers would take a rather reasonable view if it is not a 'fancy plate' and just a bit of different spacing.

My illegal spacing got noted, but my car was parked up outside my house. No silly driving or any other reason to do me except the plate. It WAS DAZ24 27 in total legal font, size style everything, just 1 space difference. It's now DAZ 2427 again fully legal and velcro'd on.
