this lens worth bidding on?

if i got an af-s one for my d40 would it still focus if i upgrade to a d90 in a years time? most of the 50mm 1.4 af-s ones are around 350 pounds. will it be better if i just buy a cheaper one and use manual?

of course - af-s means it has a focus motor in the lens, so would auto focus regardless of the body its used on. I'd ditch the d40 and get a d50, thats what i did

its essentially the same camera, but the d50 has a smaller screen and AF motor

I don't understand the logic behind Nikon not including a focus motor in the D40, it's kinda a step backwards, unless there trying to push sales on the AF-S lenses.
