This PC spec look alright?

  BMW E46 330i Touring
I've been looking around for a half-decent PC, preferably already built and supplied as a system, but wouldn't discount building myself if it was worth it price-wise...

Anyway, I've stumbled across this which seems like a pretty good deal:

http://www.cube247.co.uk/?customise=34

with:

Intel Core 4 Quad Q9550 processor
nVidia geForce 9500GT 1024MB graphics card

TOTAL: £673

Opinions?

like what games? Ive got a 6600 quad and half the ram (system and gfx) and it will play any cod on full whack

I said 'serve'. In other words don't have any hopes of running modern high-end games such as FarCry 2 or Crysis at highest settings in high resolutions with high framerates.
It will be ok for casual gaming. I'm just making sure the OP knows that you need to spend major monies on a PC if you expect it to pwn hardcore.

I don't use words like 'pwn', so only casual gaming for me... ;)

I do very little gaming on the PC and, whilst I plan to do slightly more, it won't be anything high-end. On a day-to-day basis I want it to do simple stuff, but lots of it at the same time and quickly.

It has a monitor included iain: "Hanns G 22” Widescreen TFT 5MS HDMI Flat Panel". I imagine a cheap brand but a good enough size for me.

Cheers chaps. :)

I was going to say crysis is a bit of an anomoly with regards to benchmarking as nothing else is really in it's league - by that i mean with the above spec of PC you could play a lot of games on good settings but if you want to play Crysis then you are going to have to get a lot of poop hot gear to play one game, which for most people is a bit excessive/pointless

I suppose that is not strictly true with Far Cry 2 now but still for 2 games the expediture may seem daft to the average joe, though I'm sure other games will catch up, although by then the hardware needed to run it will probably come down in price.

I hope you can sort of see my logic!

Totally agree. Sort of. However, a serious PC gamer will often be using stupidly high AA & AF + vsync and all sorts of system breaking tweaks, and still expect 60fps. Like me lol.

I appreciate that the spec is ok for general/light gaming. I was simply stressing a point, as a lot of people build/buy a PC, get it home and wonder why it runs the latest game at 5fps when they crank up the shizzle. Usually the spec sheet or salesman spin a yarn about awesome power. I was just making sure the OP was under no illusions.

For budget gaming, consoles are the way forward. PC gaming IMO is a bit of a niche, and can be VERY expensive. Believe me I know :D I'm still debating whether to build TheBeast4, or upgrade TheBeast3(.5)

Cheers Roy, appreciate the more in depth logic. All too often you'll get a "yeah, looks okay..." and not really know what to expect.

I'll see how much it'll cost to get the components from somewhere like OC or eBuyer and build myself.

Yes I know what you mean. I have pretty much packed in my PC gaming days in trade of a PS3 but I've been there and done that :D

I probably wrongly assume people who ask for help on spec and prefer not to build wont be playing cutting edge games. One day I will set myself up for a fall, ha.

anywho thats a bit off topic - the best way to save money is to rob perpherials from another pc and build it yourself - sound cards, wireless network card, monitor/keys/mouse etc

if you have got another montior you are happy with that is the biggest saving i would assume

Monitor is pretty much a necessity - my old Acer one was cheap 7 years ago!

I have no qualms building it myself, but don't really have any components (except for perhaps mouse, keyboard, wireless card) that are worth keeping.
