i am going to have a go at my car before winter sets in does this sound like a good method?

hose down
wash (2 bucket method)
dry
clay
wash
dry
polish
wax

day 2

wash
dry
2nd coat wax
 
Yep, but there isn't much need to dry between washing and waxing. Just rinse.

That way, you have more lubrication on the panels, since you are new to all this :)

ok thanks, whats a good car shampoo to wash it with because at the minute i only have a turtle wax all in one?
 
Ha, lazy git! It is well worth it for other products, but depends on how you see it, your budget and how far down the slippery slope of detailing you want to go!

well i just want to give it some protection over winter, then leave it till spring, but over that time i am going to buy different products here and there so it wont be a big expense at once, then give it a good go in spring
