im looking at upgrading my DEH-P8600MP to that one, the full colour OEL display looks mint, the ipod adaptors arnt ment to be that great but ill let someone who has one comment on it, i was told you cant use the ipod when its plugged into the adaptor?

basically sound quality will be brilliant, like my 8600MP, the screen is brilliant, the bluetooth is cool and it even has a battery voltage monitor so you can see what voltage your battery is putting out which is always handy when listning to music with your engine off!

Got to agree there, they don't always look as "flash" as the other makes but sound soo much better.

Looks like an absolute rip-off to me. Funtionality is rubbish and the screen looks terrible. Sure it's colour, but look how huge the pixels are.

I wouldn't pay that much for a CD player these days, they are cheap to produce, not to mention an ageing technology. Digital music is the way forward.

Sound quality might be good, but i have a bog standard old Sony CD player in my car which sounds excellent and does pretty much the same as that.

I'd rather save the £500 and find a decent MP3 head unit with internal laptop HDD. I had one of those not too long ago and only paid £300 for it. The sound quality wasn't the best as it was only cheap but it was FAR superior in terms of functionality to any CD player i see these days.

That's just my opinion though. I know most of you will disagree with me. I just hate CD players and MP3 CD players that they charge you the earth for. What annoys me most is the fact they take ages to load MP3's from a CD!

Go digital...

Agree cliokiz.

I love my USB port on the front of my JVC, much better than a CD Changer and easier to change mp3 files/folders quickly than burning more CDs. Reads a full 2GB stick in less than 10 seconds. Plus it has all the connections I need on the back for 2 amps and sub control if I wanted.

I'm sure some of the Kenwood/JVC USB head-units have iPod control and Bluetooth too. £500 seems a lot of money for what you get with that Pioneer.

EDIT - Kenwood W5534 £269.99 - Comes with 40GB HD ready to plug in and there is also connection room for the optional iPod and Bluetooth interfaces for £60 and £150 respectively. Even if you bought both it would still be cheaper than the Pioneer and have lots more functionality.

Very valid point.

I used to have this player in my car - http://www.densionusa.com/dh100ix_info.htm

It was BRILLIANT. I only paid £300 for it and it was supplied without a HDD, but i put a 60GB laptop HDD into the caddy which you insert into the head unit like a casette, and it was just spot on. The only reason i got rid of it was because the build quality wasn't that great and the pre-outs were a bit weak, resulting in poor bass.

Apart from that, it was absolutely packed with functionality. Even had auxilliary input which was very useful.

I'm just waiting for something similar to this of better quality to be available.

The kenwood unit has good functions, but doesn't look too great. For the price though, it looks like a good buy, certainly has more useful features than the pioneer and is a step closer to the digital world.

Dunno it looks quite OEM in a subtle sort of way.

Biffons - The Kenwood I linked to has Bluetooth if you buy the interface that plugs into the back of it. And with the 40GB HD you wouldn't need to plug your iPod into it anyway.

Audio CD's are digital but they are not electronic. You need compressed music on an electronic device with no moving parts.

The dension head unit looked good when fitted, but it does look a bit dated now as it's quite old. I didn't care about the looks, i just wanted the functionality it gave me. Since going back to CD's i miss it quite a lot. Changing CD's all the while is quite annoying, not to mention the skipping and the scratches... urgh..

@Biffons - if that head unit has features that are ideal for you then that's great, i'm not saying it's rubbish or that you shouldn't buy it, i'm just saying i personally wouldn't spend £500 on a CD player with Bluetooth.

harddrives have moving parts that are not going to like being in a car(notebook hd's arnt too bad)

i've never had a problem with my Mp3 cd ever skipping
