  Mazda MX5 1.8
i was looking at tuning mine and contacted benr who said i would be best off with a JR WRC inlet manifold, cams, remap, headwork and FULL exhaust system i could see a considerable increase in power

however ur looking at about £2.5k for that..... but about 160-180bhp apparently which would be sweet

someone a couple of days ago said to me to get a throttle body cos it would give me more power. taking my out i putting a different on in

You'd be fitting throttle bodies, (look like trumpets) and getting rid of the inlet manifold at the front, theres some pics of yozza's on throttle bodies, even though its a 2.0, just to see what they look like..

the 1.6 16v is capable of 220+ bhp. i think kevO is after a larger throttle body. unless u intend doing a lot of wotk 2 it, i'd say its not worth it.

Yopur car already have a throttle body (an electricly operated one).
A throttle bodies purpose is to control the amount of air the engine can suck in. If the throttle bodies opens fully more air gets in which mean more power. A bigger throttle body in simple theary had a bigger hole so more air can go through it so more power (so long as the fuleing is uprated to match). However gains are small plus other parts of the engine ie maniofld will limit the ability for extra air to enter the engine anyway. Also since you car runs an electric throttle body you'd have a challege trying to get a suitble modification doen to your to be of any benefit or get a 17 etc one to fit.
When people meantion throttle bodies they usually mean individual ones on each cylinder. Bascially if you have more throttle body area more air can get into the engine. If ever cylinder has its own small throtte body then that gives more air to each cylinder. To further complicate things though a good manifold and big throttle body can give more air to an engine than individual ones when its correctly done.
The 1.6 engine can make 220hp or more depends how much you want to spend but cost effectivness wise a 172 transplant would be much cheaper than even tunning the 1.6 to 160hp plus it would be more reliable and have a better gearbox and brakes and suspension etc.

cant afford one, if i had the money i would of had one....

Throttle boddies 2.5k min for the set-up, im sure you can upgrade your car for that money.

The rule should be if you want your car to go faster the buy the faster model.

maybe 120~125hp not a huge amount realy. A 172 transpant bits ie brakes suspension gearbox ecu etc is only £1.5k+ vat from j3ned that a much better tunning option value wise plsu you get the better brakes.
