Throttle pedal broken?

I'm getting some rather strange behaviour in my throttle pedal. I overtook a car off a roundabout last night and when I put my foot down, the pedal appeared to get to maximum travel, and then kind of "click" a bit further. It's not a distinct click as such, but you can push the pedal down and then it seems to change in stiffness and go a bit further.

I've never noticed it before, I don't think it ever used to do it, and I'm sure I would have noticed it on a track day. It didn't do it during a spirited drive over the weekend either.

Has the pedal broken? Has anyone experienced this before?

If i remember correctly, the extra travel is to override the speed limiter if set
