We're implementing a new system at work, and are thinking about biometric hand scanners for people to clock in and out.

Anyone used these as an alteranative to swipe cards?

erm well they seem to be working ok at the mo altho the network cards in ours just deceided to stop working so when one bloke had been waiting for a crane for 3 weeks we knew something was up lol

at first we found it a bit of a problem getting people to use them propperly but they are slowly getting used to it they would use the wrong finger and not put it on the scanner properly and also wear rubber gloves:rolleyes:, also our supplier quoted 5% wont be able to use them as it just cant read their finger prints. they only read a few points and not a complete fingerprint so you cant "copy" their finger print our users worried about that

oh and they cost a fair bit about £1800 each

oh and stay away from a company called captor !!!

AFAIK they don't user fingerprints - its some hand scan

apparently people complain that its against their religion to use them and that its a way of passing on the number of the beast! WTF?

not a big problem the whole race thing in york tho is it bud

down your way it may be a different tho as you point out

i wouldnt have said there would be much need to use a palm print it would also cost more than a finger print scanner (we did look at retana but that cost a bit too much)

  Better than yours. C*nt.
I've also heard that in time they can scan incorrectly due to residue on them if they aren't wiped regularly (ideally after every scan).

As much as you can't trust people, we decided it was 10x too much ballache for our offices.

We use a fingerprint scanner to gain access to the server room, always works a treat
